Swapping Skeins

As I mentioned yesterday, I’m knitting a skirt out of Quince and Co. Phoebe.  Since the colors are slightly variegated, Ann suggested that I swap which skein I’m using every other round, so there are no distinct color differences when I change skeins.  I’ve heard of people doing this before, but I’ve never done it myself.

A couple inches into it, I started swapping, but decided to not switch at the beginning of each round so I didn’t end up with a hole at the seam.  I’ve been switching a stitch or 2 before or after the beginning of each round.  I thought I was being clever, but now it just looks like I have tension problems.

How do you swap skeins when knitting in the round?
